Located in Hollywood’s Media District, Hollywood 959 is a large office complex consisting of two office buildings, an eight-level parking garage for 729 vehicles, and a central landscaped courtyard.
The east building is four-story, and the west building is five-story with a two-story creative office space topped with a barrel roof. Colorful operable windows decorate the façade.
The office structures are cast-in-place concrete with post-tensioned slabs. Concrete shear walls resist seismic loads. Wide shallow beam system was used to reduce interior columns and maximize floor-to ceiling height. Two-Way flat plate was used in some areas to eliminate all beams.
The parking structure is cast-in-place concrete with post-tensioned slabs. Reinforced concrete moment frame resist seismic loads. Long span beam system was used to minimize columns and provide maximum openness.
The project received the 2016 National Honors Design and Construction Award from the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institue (CRSI).
