A state-of-the-art parking facility was added into the core of the established shopping mall near University of Washington. Located at the original site of a dairy
farm, the main dairy building was re-purposed in the 90’s to become a QFC grocery store. The project adds a single elevated parking deck to accommodate approximately 300 additional parking stalls.
Challenging soils required a ground improvement system. A search for the most economical foundation system led to the use of aggregate piers to improve the bearing capacity of the soil and limit settlement. The facility uses concrete moment frames to create a light and open feeling throughout the space. Construction is in progress.
