Controlling Construction Cost with Efficient Structural Design

Today’s construction market is highly competitive and increasingly expensive. Nevertheless, opportunities exist in the design office to help control construction cost without compromising quality.

For example, concrete structures designed for compatibility with high-production forming systems can be built quicker and more efficiently. When high strength reinforcing bar is used in these same structures, additional savings are created through reductions in overall steel tonnage, reduced rebar congestion, and improved buildability. Finally, the effective use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) improves the quality of design documents and promotes early collaboration between the design and construction teams.
