University Village QFC Parking Structure

Seattle, Washington

A state-of-the-art parking structure is added into the core of an established shopping mall near University of Washington. The original site of a dairy farm, the main dairy building was re-purposed in the 90’s to become a QFC grocery store. The project adds a single elevated parking deck to accommodate approximately 300 more parking stalls. Construction finished in 2014.

Challenging soils required a ground improvement system. A search for the most economical foundation system led to the use of aggregate piers to improve the bearing capacity of the soil and limit settlement. The facility uses concrete moment frames to create a light and open feeling throughout the space.
