Cristalla is widely recognized for both its striking architectural design and state-of the-art engineering.
Located in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle, Cristalla is a 24-story luxury residential tower on the former site of the historic Crystal Pool Natatorium. It features floor-to-ceiling glazing, glass railings and exposed architectural concrete. Luxury penthouses occupy the top two floors. Construction finished in 2005.
The structure is constructed of cast-in-place concrete with hybrid floor slabs. Other unique features include long cantilevers, high strength rebar and high-strength concrete.
The Italian Renaissance terra cotta facades of the original structure were preserved and incorporated into the new building. An elaborate system of bracing and shotcrete was used to restrain and then reattach the facade during construction. CKC provided all structural engineering for both the temporary facade bracing, and for Cristalla.
The innovative and efficient structural design was not only crucial in the preservation of the Crystal Pool Building facade, but also helped Cristalla become one of the most successful and well received condominium projects in Seattle.
